Clyde:
Tucked in the rugged sub-alpine landscape of the region of Central Otago, the historic goldmining town of Clyde is a popular holiday resort steeped in history and character. The small township lies at the entry to the Cromwell Gorge and is just below the Clyde Hydro Electric dam and Lake Dunstan, with the mighty Clutha River flowing alongside.
Clyde is a short distance away from Alexandra, the commercial hub of Central Otago. It is also close to Cromwell, and a short drive from the tourist resorts of Queenstown and Lake Wanaka.
Hot and dry in summer with temperatures easing into the 30-35 degree Celsius range; the spectacular autumn colours lead into very cold and frosty winters with snow on the surrounding mountains. Sometimes there are hoar frosts creating breathtaking scenery and bitter cold.
